Bill Fink  > Portfolio > Quincy Mine Portfolio
Here is collection of images of the Quincy Mine and environs, near Hancock, Mich. The colorful chairs were placed on the Quincy No. 2 Shaft/Rockhouse in the summer of 2005 as part of that year's FinnGrandFest in Marquette. Other pictures show the massive piece of pure "float" copper recovered a few years ago in the shallow water of Lake Superior, along with views of the Nordberg Steam Hoist. All images are copyright 2006, Bill Fink Communications, LLC. Downloading of these images has been restricted, however the original files will be used for any prints ordered through SmugMug.

Bill Fink > During the summer of 2005, blue and white chairs were arranged as major art pieces in each county of the Upper Peninsula, in preparation for the FinnGrandFest in Marquette. For Houghton County, the display was done on the Quincy Mine Shaft-Rockhouse. Blue and white are the colors of the Finnish flag. This arrangement of chairs is evocative of the man-cars that carried miners, many of them Finns, down into the ground. The Quincy #2 Shaft, shown here, went over 9,000 feet into the ground, along the alignment of the steep angle on the left side of the Shaft-Rockhouse. Enjoy the straight forward view here, along with the other angles and views that follow.
